Mice possessing the lethal yellow mutation (C57BL/6J) become obese and develop hyperleptinemia as they age. Fertility declines with developing obesity and leptin resistance. The goal is to determine the relationship between altered leptin physiology and decreased reproductive function in these mice. Declining fertility appears to be related to excessive levels of serum leptin and development of leptin resistance. The cellular mechanisms by which this occurs are the focus of the study.
