The Administrative and Statistics Core is proposed to provide overall leadership and direction for development and implementation of research initiatives within the Program Project entitled "Autoimmune Arthritis: Genetics and Cellular Regulation". It will provide general scientific direction and administrative support for the integration and coordination of projects between investigators, departments and disciplines. The main goal is to coordinate and foster the scientific activities and interactions embodied in this Program application and to promote and facilitate further collaboration among investigators. This can be achieved by organizing regular internal laboratory meetings and review sessions. The aims of specific research efforts will be discussed in weekly meetings (laboratory meeting and workshop). Investigators or scientific teams will present their most recently obtained data, discuss their future research plans and have them critically evaluated. Occasionally, guest speakers will be invited to share their most recent data with the investigators of the program. These meetings and interactions bring the skills and interests of expert basic scientists together with clinical investigators and specialists in arthritis, inflammation and autoimmunity research. The Administrative and Statistics Core will be responsible for the day-to-day administration and oversight of the proposed studies. This Core will implement a periodic review process for the progress of all projects and coordinate and facilitate the incorporation of the input of the external Scientific Advisory Committee. The Administrative and Statistics Core will coordinate the annual meeting of the Scientific Advisory Committee and prepare annual progress reports for the NIH. The Administrative and Statistics Core will communicate with the NIH and Research Administration at Rush, to ensure compliance with federal and institutional guidelines. Within this core, a specialist will provide statistical analysis. The Administrative and Statistics Core also will provide the individual investigators with the necessary secretarial support services for the projects. Beyond the Core Director and research coordinator, Principal Investigators will devote 5% time to utilize all possibilities of this Administrative and Statistics Core.
