Progress on the "Culture of Research" Initiative:
During the current reporting year Saint Michael's has focused its efforts on extending the campus Culture of Research to include undergraduates to the fullest extent possible. The science departments have a long history in this area, which has been augmented substantially by VGN funding. Recognizing the benefits science undergraduates receive, and spurred on by this VGN initiative, we have begun efforts to create a College-wide culture of undergraduate research and inquiry. The administration has appointed a committee to pursue these efforts. The committee is chaired by Dr. Mark Lubkowitz, a VGN "graduate" and campus representative for the Council on Undergraduate Research, and Dr. Doug Green (BPI Coordinator) serves on the committee as well. So far the committee has several accomplishments:
+ Undergraduate Research Club: The newly-formed Undergraduate Research Club will become part of our Student Association. The Club will host and coordinate a variety of social and academic events relating to undergraduate research, during both the summer and the academic year. Although the club is in its initial stage, interest among students has been high, particularly among biology, psychology, and political science majors, including a number of students who have been funded by VGN.
