This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The BUSM Amyloid Research and Treatment Program were the hosts for the XIth International Symposium on Amyloidosis, held at Woods Hole, MA in November 2006. Investigators were responsible for organization of the scientific and social programs. More than 300 investigators from around the world attended the symposium and discussed the development of understanding of the processes that underlie protein misfolding diseases and of therapeutic approaches to these devastating diseases. Immediately before the scientific meeting, a special day for amyloid patients and their families was held at BUSM, so that the latest research results and treatment methods could be presented to this affected community. BUSM investigators made oral and poster presentations at the Woods Hole meeting, in addition to organizing workshops on clinical and basic science topics. Mass Spectrometry Resource personnel, in particular, presented the results of MS, atomic force microscopy and proteomics method developments and applications to amyloidosis research.
