SUMMARY OF THE COORDINATING UNIT COMPONENT
The Institute for Clinical Effectiveness and Health Policy (IECS) in Buenos Aires, Argentina will
host the Coordinating Unit of SACREN. IECS has extensive experience in management,
coordination, administration, financing, and data management of large, multicentric research
studies at national, regional (Latin America),and global level (Asia and Africa). IECS will be in
charge for overall operations and the executions of the Coordinating Unit and the Planning
Unit aims, with the support of UPCH and DFCI. Dr Adolfo Rubinstein will be the PI in charge of
the coordinating Unit. For this planning grant, the Steering Committee will be the primary
decision making body, while the Director of SACREN, elected from one of the members of the
Board of Directors , will be responsible for the implementation of activities. A Scientific
Advisory board will provide expert support while an External Advisory Board will bring advice
and strategic guidance to attain the goals of the center and promote community engagement
We will leverage existing experience in web‐based project management and collaboration
tools as well as remote communication capabilities of SACREN partners to facilitate face‐to‐
face and virtual meetings to enhance communication and project coordination. SACREN will
ensure project operation through logistical support, administration, data collection, and data
storage capabilities. The Coordinating Unit (CU) will also support collaborative research
activities through effective communication and management, leveraging existing experience in
web‐based project management and collaboration tools as well as remote communication
capabilities to facilitate face‐to‐face and virtual meetings, and enhance communication and
project coordination. This Unit will also conduct a cancer research needs assessment and
establish priorities informed by key stakeholders and community engagement, addressing
cancer research knowledge gaps in South America. Finally, the CU will define performance
indicators on individual and organizational achievements and strategies to ensure
sustainability. The final output of the CU will be to deliver the strategic development plan to
ensure continuity and sustainability of the center.
