PROJECT SUMMARY On February 4, 2022, NICHD released a Notice of Intent to Publish a Funding Opportunity Announcement for Learning Disabilities Research Centers (NOT-HS-22-001). The CLDRC plans to respond to this anticipated RFA to continue its research on learning disabilities and related disorders into years 31-35 under a new award. This notice indicated that the earliest estimated start date for successful applications will be July 1, 2023. The funding period for our current award ends on July 31, 2022 (the end of Year 30 for our Center), meaning that there will be an 11-month gap between the end of the current funding period and the earliest potential start date for a new award if our renewal application is selected for funding. One of the greatest strengths of the Colorado Learning Disabilities Research Center (CLDRC) is the infrastructure that has been developed and sustained over the past 30 years to support the research, clinical, mentorship, and dissemination efforts of the CLDRC. The current application requests supplemental funds to ensure that we are able to sustain this critical infrastructure during the gap in funding between the end of the current funding period and the earliest potential start date according to the Notice of Intent to Publish (NOT- HS-22-001). Specifically, the supplemental funds will (1) support the retention of two senior research faculty who will otherwise be forced to discontinue their effort on the Center, (2) facilitate the retention of three critical staff members who have over 55 collective years of experience coordinating all of the activities of our Center, and (3) ensure that we are able to continue to provide funding for three current graduate mentees. As described in more detail in this application, the ability to retain these individuals is critical to facilitate the successful completion of the stated aims in our funded application despite the unexpected delays that occurred due to COVID-19 during the current funding period. If the Administrative Supplement is approved, all funds will be expended in ways that are consistent with the specific aims approved during the last competitive review of the CLDRC. If our application for competitive renewal is unsuccessful or there is not a new funding opportunity, the Administrative Supplement funds will be used to facilitate the timely closure of our Center, including the completion of all projects and the development, documentation, and release of deidentified datasets for use by qualified investigators outside our Center.
