NIDDK Office of Fellow Recruitment and Career Development

The Fellowship Office continues to carry out its broad portfolio of activities directed at improving the overall research experience of our Fellows. During the pandemic, the office has shifted to a 100% virtual environment, including virtual trainee orientations and weekly office hours as well as the first-ever virtual Summer Internship Program. Fellows' presentations to the Board of Scientific Counselors has pivoted to a virtual format with support from this office. Through collective efforts with the Fellows Advisory Board (FAB), we carried out another successful year supporting our trainees in a variety of ways. This included virtual career workshops, wellness efforts and support for the virtual FAB Annual Scientific Conference held in April. This past year was also notable for the popular and widely attended Grant Writing Workshops, which will continue in the virtual posture, and for the Nancy Nossal Fellowship Award cycles that continue to provide Fellows with real-world grant writing experience. In addition, the Fellowship Office in partnership with the Office of the Scientific Director supported the launch of a new, virtual seminar series organized and hosted by NIDDK trainees called Trainees Recognizing Excellence and Diversity in Science featuring outstanding scientists and clinicians with a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion. TREaDS will start its second year in September of 2021.
