The project is requesting funds for a Leica EM CPD300 automated Critical Point Drying system for preparing plant tissue samples for Scanning Electron Microscopy. This proposal supports R35GM119614 which aims to understand the role of CLE peptide signaling in stem cell regulation and development in plants. SEM has been instrumental in ultrastructural analysis of plant tissues in this project, however the lack of critical point drying equipment has limited the scope of tissue types that can be analyzed. As such Leica EM CPD300 will enable the imaging of delicate and easily desiccated plant tissues rapidly and in a high throughput manner and will assist the analysis of the processes CLE peptides play in plant development.
