This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The objective of the Analytical Core Laboratory (ACL) is to provide spectroscopic and chromatographic equipment to investigators of pilot projects in the RCMI Program as well as investigators in other programs in the College Science, Engineering, and Technology (CSET) for their research needs. This laboratory will respond to the needs for obtaining analytical information in a timely manner throughout the year. During the current grant period, ACL has continued to provide analytical services to principal investigators of pilot projects in the RCMI program as well as those in other programs. This laboratory has also been used for teaching chemical instrumentation class. Instruments have been well maintained by Technician throughout the year. Five instruments including LC/MS/MS, FT-IR, Raman system, UV-vis spectrometer, and HPLC needed repair services during this grant period. A funding of JSU NIH-SCORE program as well as supports for the pilot projects in this grant helped to enforce the usage charge system for the ACL users. Three workshops have been offered for chromatographic and spectroscopic determinations of environmentally and bio-medically relevant species. ACL has been reviewed and evaluated by both the ACL External Advisory Committee and the University of California (at Davis) Evaluation Panel.
