项目摘要

PROJECT 3. DEVELOPMENT OF RAPID INNOVATIVE DIAGNOSTIC PLATFORMS FOR ROUTINE CLINICAL USE IN KNOWN OR SUSPECTED BT EVENTS (ROTHMAN) Richard Rothman MD, PhD, Principal Investigator for the Diagnostics Project, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Rothman developed his current translational research program through doctoral training in cellular and molecular biology at UCSF, course work and experience during his research fellowship training, and subsequent multidisciplinary collaborations both internal and external to Johns Hopkins University. His work focuses on basic molecular innovations (such as polymerase chain reaction) for rapid detection of biologic agents in acute care settings. The ability to bridge both clinical, laboratory, and epidemiological surveillance methods makes him uniquely qualified to lead this program for the development of biotech detection systems. Dr. Rothman is the Research Fellowship Director in the Department of Emergency Medicine and serves as a consultant both for the biotech industry in the BT arena, and for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the area of acute diagnosis of infectious diseases. Dr. Rothman will provide overall direction and coordination for the Diagnostics Project, ensuring that the overall goals and objectives are met. He will coordinate the various sub-projects and provide guidance as to appropriateness of assays for clinical use. He will act as liaison between the primate center and other RCE projects for sharing of diagnostic assay platforms, diagnostic reagents, and clinical human and animal specimens as a means of furthering the goals of not only the Diagnostic Project, but those of the other RCE projects. 10% salary support is requested.
