The goal of CORE A is to provide the stewardship to support future work, maximizing the return on the investments made to date and creating new opportunities. The renewal (TTURC-2) of our original award _TURC-1) requires continued: (a) proactive scientific leadership with a clear transdisciplinary (TD) vision; (b) effective administrative infrastructure; (c) strong communications support; and (d) attraction of a select group of new investigators to add to the existing team of scientists. Our TTURC-1 is now a regional "incubator" for TD science with a critical mass of TD scientists and a strong TD culture. Along with this "intellectual capital" is a rich and growing data-base and specimen sample repository from our unique 3 generation NEFS cohort, and a thriving career development / training site for future TD scientists. TFURC-2 points to an even more enriched data-base with enormous "value-added" potential still to be realized. Lessons learned from TTURC-1 have also now been incorporated in improvements that will benefit TTURC-2. The three primary aims of TTURC-2 are as follows: A.1. Provide the scientific leadership and the vision to guide TD conceptual syalthesis; maintain the intellectual capital amassed in TTL_C-1; attract and integrate new thculty; ensure cross-discipline and cross institution collaborations; provide oversight from external advisors; and allocate institutional matching funds wisely. A.2__M__a.intain and enhance internal and external communications resources to increase the visibility, credibility and information exchange of TTURC-2; and to enhance the processes that nurture TD science and productivity. A.3. Provide the administrative, fiscal and logistical management tools for TTURC-2 to achieve its stated aims. Ultimately, Core A is dedicated to providing the infrastructure for maintaining and enhancing the TD culture already in place and to the efficient execution of the research proposed in TTURC-2.
