HALT-C TRIAL

The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Chronic hepatitis C is a long-lasting viral infection affecting the liver which may lead to permanent liver damage and, occasionally, to liver cancer. The purpose of this study is to determine the safety and efficacy of using long-term maintenance therapy (3-1/2 years) with PEG interferon compared to no treatment in subjects infected with chronic hepatitis C who have failed to clear virus from the bloodstream with previous courses of therapy.
