Specific Aims /Objectives A cohort of children with HCV infection and healthy controls matched for age, gender, body mass index (BMI), and Tanner stage will be studied to evaluate whether: 1) HCV infection is associated with IR in children 2) Clearance of HCV infection improves IR in children 3) HCV infection correlates with higher TNF-alpha and lower adiponectin levels and these, in turn, correlate with IR both cross-sectionally as well as longitudinally Through the above aims, the following hypotheses will be tested: 1) HCV infection is associated with IR in children 2) Clearance of HCV infection reduces IR in children 3) Inflammatory adipokines mediate the development of HCV-associated IR
