CORRELATES OF GLUTEN-FREE DIET COMPLIANCE IN ADULTS WITH CELIAC DISEASE

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The primary hypothesis of this study is to determine if use of a self-administered questionnaire predictive of adherence to a gluten free diet can be developed with good validity and reliability compared to trained clinician interview. It is hypothesized that neuroticism, as measured by the NEO PI-R will correlate positively with gluten-free diet compliance, as measured by self-report of level of compliance, nutritionist evaluation, and serologic testing, in adults with celiac disease. Also, it is hypothesized that altruism, as measured by NEO PI-R, will correlate negatively with gluten-free diet compliance, as measured by the same measures.
