This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. This type A pilot study attempts 1) to identify structural-functional association for mentalizing tasks using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), and 2) to determine a causal role of frontal brain regions in mentalizing tasks by disruption of such tasks with repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) of fMRI-identified target areas of the brain. The aim of this research is to identify the neural systems that are critical to support some of the cognitive processes that are involved in deception. Forty healthy, volunteer subjects between 25 and 55 years of age will be recruited for this study.
