This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. We continue to upgrade the distributed control system and accompanying graphical user interface Blu-Ice, which we first used for small angle scattering experiments two years ago, aimed at making beam line control and data collection highly efficient, intuitive and user friendly. The new and improved capabilities developed this year include: 1) control of the ultra small scattering setup, 2) sample flow during data collection to minimize beam damage on the samples, 3) control of RS232 devices, such as a syringe pump, by DCS, 4) improved automatic slit optimization protocol, 5) incorporation of new hardware for motion control and sample handling, 6) revised detector baseline (dark image) measurement procedure. There are also modifications made to parts of the DCS to make the data collection system more stable and reliable. The DCS/Blu-Ice is rountinely used for all experiments on BL4-2 with a few exceptions in time-resolved data collection, which is usually accomplished using the Hamamatsu image-intensified detector system and the EMBL data collection system.
