项目摘要
This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the
resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and
investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source,
and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is
for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.
We request in this renewal proposal to the LRAC continued support for the computational needs of the Center for Integrated Space Weather Modeling, CISM, as well as other NSF and NASA grants held by team members. From our previous experience, we have deemed it appropriate to combine the research of our CISM colleagues for the grants listed into this single large request, and thus limit the number of submission to the committee. The bulk of the requested time will support basic science studies with large-scale production runs of our massive parallel solar corona, heliosphere, and magnetosphere run primarily individually, but also coupled with one or two other CISM codes. As discussed below, there are many scientific issues that must be resolved, especially in the solar atmosphere and earths magnetosphere, to increase the scientific accuracy of the fully coupled runs. Furthermore, our other grants (besides CISM) require basic scientific studies of the solar atmosphere and the earths magnetosphere. In this year, we will also attempt to use the resources of the TeraGrid to perform a limited number of fully coupled code simulations, with individual codes running on the (distributed) TeraGrid sites.
