This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the
resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and
investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source,
and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is
for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.
Cnn1p is a novel S. cerevisiae kinetochore protein that was recently identified in the immunoprecipitates of known kinetochore components. Cnn1p is a non-essential protein whose elimination from the cell gives no phenotypes (chromosome loss, spindle checkpoint activation, etc.). Cnn1p is expressed in very low amounts making its purification extremely difficult. Via a whole-genome two-hybrid interaction screen we hope to identify partners of Cnn1p which will lead to a better understanding of the roles that Cnn1p carries out during chromosome segregation.
