CONSERVATION GENETICS OF FINESCALE DACE: DEVELOPMENT OF MICROSATELLITE MARKERS

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Jake Miller will construct a genomic library for the Finescale Dace, Phoxinus neogaeus, enriched for microsatellite sequences. This library will be screened for the presence of di-, tri- and tetra-nucleotide repeat regions that may be used as microsatellite markers. Those regions will be sequenced and PCR primers specific to those regions will be designed and optimized. Once optimized the primers will be available to be used in a study to assess the amount of polymorphism at each locus and the utility of the microsatellite markers in future population genetics.
