This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. We propose to build a high performance bioinformatics cluster at USD. The cluster is bsed on the 32-node (64 CPUs) high performance machine funded by SD BRIN. We will integrate it with the state-of-the-art bioinformatics software environment. The resulting cluster will serve as a high performance platform for bioinformatics research at USD and for the state of SD. It will also act as a platform to conduct high performance computing. Specifically, we propose to investigate the performance of processor visualization, a type of high performance computing technique, in bioinformatics context. The proposed project is expected to make an important impact on the bioinformatics and high performance computing research at USD and in SD. We have already made some initial efforts and gained valuable experience. Our experience and existing strength will ensure that the project continue to be carried out.
