This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Our previous studies of brain structure in experienced meditators indicated that several loci of cortex were thicker in the meditators than matched controls. The goal of this proposal is to compare the effect of these cortical changes on cognitive and emotional functioning between meditators and matched controls. And within the meditation group, how thickness and performance correlates with the amount of meditation experience.
