This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. There are two well-known stress reduction courses that use meditation techniques as their primary tool - the Relaxation Response (RR) program [1] or the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) [2]. We propose a randomized pilot study comparing these two techniques in healthy adults with sub-clinical levels of stress. This pilot study will allow us to test various measures of interest, to identify those that most robustly distinguish these two interventions, which will allow us to design a larger clinical trial.
