This proposal will examine the central hypothesis that: AA supplementation will acutely potentiate cytokine activation and oxidative stress produced by intravenous Fe by increasing NTBI concentrations in hemodialysis (HD) patients. Specific Aims 1) To determine the effect of AA in the presence of NTBI on cytokine activation, DNA, lipid, and protein oxidation. 2) To study the relationship between AA and magnitude of NTBI apparance. 3) To evaluate clinically-revelant predictors and AA and Fe-induced oxidative stress and inflammation in HD patients.
