项目摘要

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Platelet dysfunction is an important pathological contributor to atherosclerosis (1). Medications, such as estrogens that change platelet function may alter the risk of developing coronary artery disease in patients. Genetic variants also determine platelet response to many medications. Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in genes that regulate platelet function may contribute to this inter-individual variation in response to medications. We have established an ex vivo platelet aggregation protocol to study the effect of medications on platelet aggregation. The goal of this study is to use pre-genotyped platelets to evaluate the effect of genetic diversity on the ex vivo platelet aggregation when the platelets are exposed to medications.
