英文摘要
Abstract
This administrative supplement will facilitate completion of the specific aims of the parent grant, R01EY033829
Prioritizing Diversity in Polygenic Risk for Primary Open-Angle Glaucoma, in several ways. The parent grant
structure is a consortium of research groups, each of whom have genome-wide association (GWAS) data from
individuals of global African ancestry with ocular data evaluated by experts and categorized as glaucoma
cases or controls. Each contributing member of the consortium will conduct analyses on their own data and
submit summary statistics for meta-analysis to the PI, Dr. Jessica Cooke Bailey, and her group at Case
Western Reserve University (CWRU). One key contributing member of the consortium is the Eyes of Africa
group, based in Ibadan, Nigeria. This group has collected GWAS and clinical data from more than 6500
individuals with continental African ancestry, comprising an especially powerful dataset due to geographic
ancestry and sample size. This administrative supplement will enable the Eyes of Africa statistician, Dr. Onoja
Akpa, PhD, to work alongside the team of Dr. Cooke Bailey, an international leader in the field of glaucoma
genetics, to complete analyses described in the specific aims of the parent R01. This will be accomplished via
Dr. Akpa’s exposure to and real-time use of the most up-to-date methods for statistical analysis of GWAS data.
This supplement will not only ensure the efficient completion of the proposed parent grant aims, but will also
greatly enhance Dr. Akpa’s ability to conduct further analyses for the parent grant once he returns to the
University of Ibadan. It will also serve to enhance the involvement of minority individuals in NIH-funded
research.
