英文摘要
This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the
resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and
investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source,
and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is
for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.
The investigators propose to obtain blood from approximately 500 patients scheduled for screening colonoscopy. The blood samples will be analyzed for pro-inflammatory cytokines.
Polymorphisms in pro-inflammatory cytokines are associated with increased risk of gastric cancer. The hypothesis of this pilot, exploratory study is that there is a similar increased risk in the development of carcinoma of the colon. The investigators propose to obtain blood from approximately 500 patients scheduled for screening colonoscopy. The blood samples will be analyzed for pro-inflammatory cytokines: COX-2, IL-1b, IL-2, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, PPARg, and TNFa. They plan to examine patients for history of red meat consumption, BMI, history of cancer, etc; colonoscopy; and allelic analysis. Subjects will be stratified into four populations: no polyps; low-grade polyps; high-grade polyps; colorectal cancer. Preliminary data show significance.
