Over the past several years, our group has been focused on studying genes with neuromodulatory, neuroprotective and/or neuroregenerative effects in models of neurodegeneration and neurotoxicity. We primarily have examined how the MANF/CDNF protein family can improve neuronal survival during injury or disease states. We published a review on MANF and CDNF as trophic factors that function as modulators of ER stress and inflammation. In collaboration with Dr. Mikko Airavaara (U Helsinki) we published a molecular profile from the peri-infarction region of a rat brain that underwent a stroke. We describe the effects of MANF on the changes to the molecular profile in this area.
