项目摘要

NINR training programs include the Summer Genetics Institute, Methodologies Boot Camps (Pain; Fatigue and Sleep; Big Data in Symptoms Research; Precision Health: from Omics to Data Science; Precision Health: Smart Technologies, Smart Health, Artificial Intelligence), pre- and postdoctoral fellowships, and other Institute-sponsored intramural research and training opportunities. 1. Summer Genetics Institute (SGI) Program The 2020 SGI program was canceled to limit the spread of the novel coronavirus. Despite canceling the month-long program, NINR's Division of Intramural Research (DIR) held a virtual symposium to mark a milestone anniversary celebrating 20 years. The symposium titled Omics to Advance Symptom Science Research was held on June 22 and examined how omics methodologies are improving symptom measurement and characterization and explored how this research is guiding approaches to biobehavioral interventional methods. Acting NINR director Dr. Tara Schwetz opened the symposium and provided a brief background of the SGI, citing the programs goal since its inception. NIH director Dr. Francis Collins delivered opening remarks, highlighting the importance of genomics in nursing and the important role of nurses in contributing significantly to reshaping and optimizing healthcare by accelerating integration of genomics into healthcare. Dr. Christine Miaskowski discussed the use of omics to understand oncology patient symptoms and touched on the importance of genetics and genomics in nursing research as a catalyst for risk factor identification. Dr. Yvette Conley reviewed using omics to understand outcomes after neurological injury, and Dr. Angela Starkweather described the genomics of the transition from acute to chronic pain. The speakers also discussed their involvement with SGI, their career trajectories and perspectives on the future of omics in translational programs of research and clinical care. Acting Scientific Director Dr. Terri Armstrong closed the symposium and highlighted key papers that have helped build the framework for genomic nursing research and competencies and looked to the future. She described a paradigm shift where approaches used in nursing and medicine are now interconnected. Genomic research can be used to study both the human response--a nursing approach--with the association with disease--an approach used in medicine. About 1100 people joined the event live, and over 250 have viewed on-demand. In total participants represent 20 countries outside the US. CEUs were awarded and available until 1 week following the event. The event page is listed here. https://www.ninr.nih.gov/newsandinformation/events/sgi-20 The symposium is archived at the following link. https://videocast.nih.gov/watch=37511 2. Symptom Methodologies Boot Camp. 2020 Artificial Intelligence The 2020 Boot Camp explored the impact that Artificial Intelligence (AI) has in the evolving healthcare environment, and overall efforts to improve the quality of care for patients and families. This was the first time that a boot camp was held online only. The goal is to enable attendees to understand basic principles of AI and how clinicians can form strategic alliances with data scientists to carry out research on data-driven intelligent hardware and software approaches to health-related issues. It took place from August 3-6, 2020 for 2 hours each day. The 2020 Boot Camp had four sessions to focus on a particular theme. On the first day Innovations and Improvements in Health Outcomes introduced the role that AI has in promoting new ways or processes to apply AI in healthcare and incorporating fundamental approaches into AI projects. On the second day Clinical Applications explored the involvement of AI algorithms in clinical decision support and how AI and apps addressed health disparities and increased participant and community engagement. The afternoon demo showed how to use software for natural language processing and nursing notes. The third day Ethical, Legal and Social Implications covered moral and ethical issues in AI, managing and minimizing bias, and transparency using AI. The last day Collaborative Science described integrating AI across teams and leveraging partnerships across NIH for the research community. The afternoon session described an app that monitors resilience within a community. The event generated great interest from across the country and internationally. On the first day over 1300 people joined from nearly 30 countries outside the US, and attendance was high every day. Because this was a virtual event and not limited by the number of physical seats, we were able to accommodate about 10 times the number of participants. The event was broadcast live via NIH Videocast and archived for later viewing. https://www.ninr.nih.gov/newsandinformation/events/bootcamp2020#sessioni Day 1: https://videocast.nih.gov/watch=36182 Day 2: https://videocast.nih.gov/watch=36186 Day 3: https://videocast.nih.gov/watch=36190 Day 4: https://videocast.nih.gov/watch=36194 3. Graduate Partnership Program (GPP) The NINR GPP is part of the NIH intramural Graduate Partnership Program and was begun as a 3-year pilot program in the fall of 2003. The first NINR GPP fellow was accepted in the spring of 2004. In total for FY 2020, our program supported 3 graduate students from University of Nebraska Medical Center, University of Missouri at St. Louis, and University of Illinois at Chicago. Of these three, two students have recently successfully defended the dissertation. Applications are accepted via an online application system beginning in August and ending in December each year. 4. New Postbaccalaureate IRTA fellow trainees in the DIR of NINR Six new postbaccalaureate fellows were accepted this past year. Of those who have completed their training, 30% entered medical school, 30% entered PhD in neuroscience programs, 15% entered physical therapy school, 15% entered combined MD-PhD programs, and the remainder have entered the professional workforce. 5. New Postdoctoral trainees in the DIR of NINR Three new postdoctoral fellows were accepted this past year, and one has completed their postdoctoral fellowship at NINR and decided to continue training. 6. NINR Summer Internship Program The 2020 Summer Internship Program was also canceled. Despite the cancellation of the onsite internship program, NINR hosted a virtual panel session titled Careers in Nursing Science that was held on Friday, July 10, 2020 from 2-3 pm ET. The purpose was to highlight careers as a scientist and a nurse with the NINR. Participants learned about the many career opportunities open to nurses with PhDs and how nurses ask research questions, which are person-centered and patient focused. Over 200 people participated from 34 US states and from 3 countries outside the US. The panelists were Dr. Patricia Brennan, RN, PhD, Director, National Library of Medicine; Dr. Leorey Saligan, PhD, RN, CRNP, FAAN, Acting Chief, Symptom Science Center; Dr. Paule V. Joseph, PhD, MS, FNP-BC, RN, CTN-B, Lasker Clinical Research Scholar. The video is available on the NINR YouTube Channel in the Training section. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHICca9vGSw
