A minus 80 C freezer is applied for. The research programs of both applicants involve plant-microbe interactions, and in both cases there is a need to keep collections of microbes frozen at very low temperatures. Both applicants conduct work in legume nitrogen fixation, requiring collections of rhizobia, and one also does work with plant growth promoting rhizobacteria and bacteriocins, both requiring additional collections of strains. Finally, in some cases the applicants isolate metabolites from the tissues of treated and control plants and this may require -80 C freezing until such time as the analyses can be completed. The applications are requesting funds to purchase a Forma Model 904 ultra low temperature upright single door freezer. The applicants are very productive in terms of research output and training of highly qualified personnel.
