The diffraction of X-rays by crystalline materials is one of the most powerful methods available to chemists for elucidating the three-dimensional structures of molecules and materials of interest. The developement of new "Charge Coupled Device" (CCD) camera technology for X-ray diffractometers now allows for the rapid collection of X-ray diffraction data on crystal samples that are but a few micrometers in size. This application supports an upgrade our diffractometer with a state-of-the-art CCD camera, which will have an immediate impact and allow for the development of new research programs in nanomaterials, catalysis, synthetic and medicinal chemistry and polymer science. This equipment will support the research of seven professors and contribute to the scientific training of thirty graduate students and post-doctoral researchers.
