The integration by cells of multiple intercellular signals is of prime importance for the development of multicellular organisms. However, these mechanisms are still poorly understood. We will use the microscopic worm, Caenorhabditis elegans as a model system to provide a better understanding of the composition and topology of regulatory machineries involved in cell signaling integration events during embryonic development. To do so, we will develop an integrative genomic approach consisting in the generation and integration of complementary layers of biological information. Some pieces of equipment are required to develop the proposed research program. These equipments are required as a complement of the infrastructure requested to the Canadian Foundation for Innovation for the installation of a C. elegans functional genomic platform within the UQAM science faculty. These equipments consist in: (i) an ultra-low temperature freezer; (ii) a thermocycler; (iii) a refrigerated bench-top centrifuge; (iv) a cold incubator-shaker; (v) a microparticle bombardment system. The requested equipments are essential for the development of different experimental steps of the proposed program. It is also required to complete the installation of a C. elegans genomic platform that will be appropriate to the development of a large number of projects and program in the future. These equipments will enable the generation of dynamic models of cell signaling integration machineries conserved throughout Eukaryotes and involved in a large number of human pathologies. The research supported by the proposed infrastructure will consequently bring a better understanding of cell signaling events. It will also provide the scientific community with dynamic models that could be used to better understand number of pathogenic processes. This infrastructure will also provide the students working in my laboratory with equipment required to support a research of quality and consequently ensure the success of their future career in academia or in the industry.
