Glaciers completely changed our landscape, creating landforms by eroding into rock and by depositing thick sediments. Glacial periods were also times of dramatic climate change, somehow related to ocean circulation. Exceptionally cold events (Heinrich events) mark cold, fresh water spreading over the northern parts of the North Atlantic and cutting off its circulation.
