Inflatable boat for shallow water field sampling

A major focus of research at the University of Windsor is aquatic biology, with at least 11 researchers running well funded and productive research laboratories using aquatic organisms as research models. With such a dynamic group, the resources devoted to this area need updating. While we currently have boats for research use, they are aging, in constant demand and do not meet all the needs of our expanding research programs. In particular, while we have boats available for open water lake research, we have no boats that can be safely used to carry research teams into shallower waters in often changing climatic conditions. We are requesting funds to purchase a rugged inflatable boat that can traverse rough waters and also operate in shallow-draft conditions. Purchase of such a vessel will allow enhanced flexibility in the range of environments over which our researchers can operate and will provide easier access for the faculty, student and post-doctoral researchers to infrastructure critical for their research projects.
