Genetic and functional studies in the yeast S.cerevisiae are pivotal for the understanding of complex processes in all eukaryotes including humans. Continuous multi-decade research on this organism has accumulated exceptional breadth of knowledge and conditional mutant alleles of virtually all genes. Contemporary research has added genome-wide tools such as the collection of complete deletion mutant strains, the collection of complete tagged strains, etc. The field of yeast genetics and molecular biology remains truly dynamic and is in the forefront of contemporary science.
