The funding of a multichannel potentiostat will allow us to acquire an instrument that we consider essential for the ongoing success of our fruitful interdisciplinary research in molecular diagnostics at Simon Fraser University (SFU). A multichannel potentiostat is capable of performing a number of electrochemical / solid-state electrical measurements on electrode arrays or microelectrode sets. At SFU, this instrument will be an indispensable tool for the development of highly sensitive and discriminating DNA switch-based multiplex biosensors (deoxyribosensors) for the electronic detection of biomedical analytes -- a central theme in the joint research efforts of Dr. Yu in the Department of Chemistry and Dr. Sen in the Department of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry.
