Magnetic Resonance Elastography (MRE) is a relatively new Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) modality that enables the measurement of tissue mechanical parameters in-vivo. Because it provides absolute and objective measurement of these mechanical parameters, magnetic resonance elastography can be thought of as the ultimate "remote palpation" tool. MRE images the way tissue vibrates when an external vibration source is placed against it. Smaller amplitude shaking corresponds to stiffer tissue.
