Preparative ultracentrifugation remains a core piece of equipment in many areas of cell and molecular biology. In addition, it is a heavily-used and essential tool in marine microbiology and virology, as well as some areas of biological oceanography. There is an urgent need to replace the existing 18 year old ultracentrifuge and rotors that supports research in marine virology, biological oceanography and biodiversity. This proposal seeks funding to purchase an ultracentrifuge and rotors that will support researchers in the Biodiversity Research Centre and the Department of Earth and Ocean Sciences.
