Measurement of polymer properties and flow rates are essential to study the dynamics of polymer flow reactors and to develop process model by identification. The applicant has recently received funding to acquire a reactor vessel for polymerization studies. The reactor system is equipped with two metering pumps and a data acquisition system. The research plan is to generate data for model validation under different operating conditions and for control schemes development. However, the lack of online instrumentation is the most crucial challenging issue encountered in polymer reaction engineering. In fact, there is exists no direct online measurement of polymer molecular weight distribution.
