Do you go with your gut instinct, or weigh out all of the pro's and con's before you decide? Although many of us might like to say that we weigh the alternatives, experimental evidence indicates otherwise. Instead, scientists have identified a number of non-rational processes by which answers or choices quickly pop into mind; so long as these seem reasonable or plausible, they often become substitutes for rational analysis.
