The synergistic combination of precision mechanical engineering and control is called Mechatronics. This is generally associated with automotive products (e.g. hybrid powertrain), but can also be associated to new systems that I have developed: structural health monitoring systems used to detect damages in aeronautic structures, active vibration control systems driving anti-vibrations to reduce radiated noise, or liquid ventilator to ventilate patients with liquid instead of gas. My research program will apply control theory for these four applications, but the main support will be required on the liquid ventilator for the next five years.
