This research program studies how the social network model and data mining techniques complement each other to produce a powerful framework that can successfully tackle a wide range of applications in different domains. Though, research on social networks started in anthropology and sociology in 1930s, the recent development in technology has influenced the field and rapidly increased its popularity.
