Accurate planning and delivery in stereotactic radiosurgery using a Cyberknife unit

This research program is focussed on treatment of cancerous tumors with small radiation fields. In radiotherapy, using very small fields, sometimes a few mm in diameter, allows a tumor "painting" and an avoidance of surrounding healthy organs. However, the small size of fields lead to technical difficulties in radiation dose calculation, deposited dose measurement, thus in treatment planning. Our objective is to study dose calculation with small fields, optimize treatment planning and validate treatment security through adapted quality assurance. To conduct this research, we will use our CyberKnife. This unit was the first installed in Canada, in 2009.
