Our research program focuses on exploring technologies to enhance the nutritional profiles and agronomic performance of major Canadian crops. Carotenoids are plant metabolites with important nutritional, health and industrial applications. We propose to investigate the involvement of a small RNA, microRNA156, in carotenoid accumulation, shoot branching, root formation and interaction with symbiotic rhizobia. Our specific objectives are:
