Using the controlled interference between two stabilized short pulse lasers, known as frequency combs, is a new paradigm for optical measurements that shows a lot of potential. It allows retrieving the spectral signature of gases as well as to form three-dimensional images of biomedical samples. For remote sensing application, the approach can merge range determination and spectral identification capabilities currently requiring several instruments.
