Vehicular navigation using Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) technology such as the U.S. Global Positioning System (GPS) are becoming ubiquitous, with automotive manufacturers provide onboard systems and with several aftermarket systems currently available. However, the GNSS receivers in these systems generally operate autonomously and do not make use of other navigation-related information that may be available, such as from the vehicle's odometers or other onboard sensors. Rather, the GNSS measurements are only integrated with vehicle sensor information after the fact; an approach known as "tight integration".
