Cryptography in the setting of mobile communications operates under very restrictive constraints compared to standard computing environments, with hardware, power consumption, and bandwidth resources being at a premium. At the same time, the ubiquity and immediacy of cellular phones and communications leads to increased and growing demand for security services including data encryption, authentication, and privacy.
