This equipment is crucial for the research direction of at least two NSERC funded researchers at the University of Windsor as well as securing an industrial partnership with a local start-up company. The primary research focus of these groups is to understand specific aspects of cell biology throughout life, and how this contributes to organism development. Each of these research programs rely very heavily on the production of 'model systems' to study how specific genes work in the body. The technology requested is currently lacking at the University of Windsor and this has had significant impact on the efficiency by which these research programs can carry out their work. The requested infrastructure will allow these groups to visualize functional aspects of cell and developmental biology that is currently not possible in this area. This proposal will undoubtedly improve the quality of the data they are collecting as well as to dramatically increase the rate at which they are able to conduct their work.
