The goal of our research program is to better understand the immune system of plants against a broad spectrum of pathogens. An improved understanding of plants' ability to fight against pathogen infections will enable us to design sustainable and environmentally friendly ways to alleviate crop failure caused by plant diseases. During the past few years, our group has made pioneering discoveries in determining the essential roles of transcriptional regulation, nucleocytoplasmic trafficking, protein modification, and RNA processing in plant immunity. We have discovered a number of novel regulators critical for plant resistance against pathogens. Future efforts will be made to identify the missing players in plant immunity and elucidate how all these components function together to mount a defense response. The success of our research program relies heavily on our capability to learn and use recently developed technologies, such as next-generation sequencing.
