英文摘要
Our current dense-array EEG (brainwave) equipment has been a major driving force in supporting an increasing presence of cognitive neuroscience at the University of Alberta. It has been a catalyst for an expanding community of brainwave researchers across departments and faculties, investigating the brain-basis of human cognition and action. We plan to further expand and conduct a higher volume of cutting-edge cognitive neuroscience research with the proposed equipment and to avoid delays in research progress. The main parts of our equipment request are nine EEG sensor-nets, which are the electrode "caps" that our research participants wear. These nets are compatible with our recording systems, and are state-of-the-art. Two of these sensor-nets are for our brain-imaging (MRI) compatible EEG system that we have installed at the University of Alberta Hospital. All of our sensor-nets require maintenance and repair, which can mean that they are out of commission for several weeks at a time. The additional sensor-nets we are requesting here are critical for our continued progress in order to prevent research delays, and ensure that more than one research participant can be run at any given time. A portion of the requested funds will allow us to enhance the computing power of our multi-processor data-analysis server to support the large size of our data sets and the complexity of our pre-processing and data-analysis methods.
