The proposed work is in the area of groundwater and low-temperature geothermal energy. Canada needs to develop sustainable, affordable and environmentally-sound energy alternatives. One such source is simply the low grade energy stored underground, and this is commonly exploited with heat-pumps and/or groundwater wells, and often referred to as "geoexchange". The use of this technology has seen considerable expansion world-wide in recent years. However, new scientific findings indicate that increasing geothermal development will require a greater degree of understanding of heat and groundwater flow in the subsurface.
